Creating A Culture of Quality and Patient Safety

Today’s healthcare challenges require deeper thinking and a more comprehensive approach to reducing costs and improving quality of care.

It’s critical for healthcare organizations to establish a relationship between being a quality organization and being cost effective and efficient. Amerinet surveyed nearly 170 executives at member facilities regarding patient safety and quality and discussed the results during Amerinet's Executive Roundtable in February 2010.

Three common themes emerged from the survey results and roundtable discussion:  

1. Commitment
2. Transparency
3. Patient safety initiatives

Bottom line: To execute a culture of improvement and patient safety, healthcare executives and boards of directors need to ensure their organizations have commitment, transparency and patient safety initiatives.
